The Darlington Raceway is the result of one man's dream. Harold Brasington believed in the future of NASCAR, and worked to see his dream become a reality in 1950 in the small town of Darlington, and the Speedway is known to be one of the pillars of NASCAR. In recent years two additional grandstands have been erected, more than doubling the seating capacity. New facilities include souvenir stands, food courts, and gift shops, and the Tyler Tower sits on turn 4.

The difficult Speedway quickly earned the nick-name "Too Tough to Tame" and even top drivers such as Richard Petty dreaded running on the track. Events include NASCAR, Nextel Cup series and much more. Tickets to most events start at $30 for a 1 day pass. Campers can find facilities for RVs, campers, and even tents. Camp Darlington is an over night camp site at the rate of $75 a night. Petty/Pearson RV Parking sites are $100 and puts you near the "Too Tough to Tame" track, and is located behind the Tyler Tower. Share the infield with NASCAR's top names when you camp at the Infield RV park. These spaces are limited and start at $475.

The Speedway is also home to the Joe Weatherly Stock Car Museum, which houses both old and new alike. Joe had a reputation as the Clown Prince of Stock Car Racing, and was known for his zest for life - and the museum was his dream. After his death the museum was completed and stands as a memorial to his memory and to the greatness of stock car racing. Exhibits include the winningest car in stock car racing, 1940 classic cars and even Darrell Waltrip's '91 Chevy Lumina that rolled eight times in one of the most ferocious crashes in history. Admission to the museum is $5 for those over 12 years old.

The Florence Motor Speedway offers races, events and programs to entertain race fans of all ages. Races include Super Trucks, Road Warriors, Chargers, Young Guns and much more. General admission is $10 for adults, $3 for children. Every fan has dreamed of getting behind the wheel of a car and the Florence Speedway can make that dream a reality. Maybe you prefer just to ride with a professional, driving his car. Which ever you prefer, they can give you the ride of your life. The Speedway has packages for parties and large groups from battery powered cars, bikes and group rates to the races.

The roots of racing run deep in Darlington and even though the track may be "Too Tough to Tame", it's a great place for race fans.
